Randy Livingston established The Big Easy Elite in 2009. Randy, a native of New Orleans, LA, led Newman High School to three consecutive Louisiana Class 2A state championships and scored more than 3,000 points during his high school career. Considered the nation’s top high school player in 1993, Randy chose to attend Louisiana State University, where his older brother, Ronald, Jr., was the manager.
The much-heralded college career he had envisioned was not to be as Randy suffered a torn ACL during a basketball camp the summer before his freshman season and was forced to redshirt. Undaunted, he fought back to return the following season. After an excellent start to his freshman campaign, the injury bug hit again as Randy broke his kneecap. He battled back again, doing whatever he could to get back to the game he loved. Plagued by injuries, he played in 29 games at LSU before declaring for the 1996 NBA Draft. Yet his time at LSU was more than just about overcoming adversity. It was there that Randy built great relationships and developed the necessary skills to pursue his goals, on and off the court.
Drafted in the second round (42nd overall) by the Houston Rockets, Randy would go on to play 12 seasons, seeing playing time with the Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, Seattle SuperSonics, New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, and the Utah Jazz. During his playing career, he also spent time in the Turkish basketball league, playing for Galatasaray, and with the CBA’s Sioux Falls Skyforce and CBA/NBADL’s Idaho Stampede. Along the way, he also completed his degree.
Following his retirement in 2008, Randy decided to pursue his dreams of being at the helm of his own organization in which he could directly help others – The Big Easy Elite.
Part of his aim is to start a youth program, which supports and sponsors an AAU Basketball organization and team called “The Louisiana Spartans” which will consist of teams ranging ages: 8 thru 16 . They will compete in the local circuit as well as nationally. Under the direction of Randy and his staff, the participating teammates will enjoy traveling stateside to compete for solid national rankings.
The Big Easy Elite believes in investing in the future of the community it calls home – New Orleans, giving it a new start, via sports and entertainment, spearheaded by a true native.
